Privanova Hosts the DRG4FOOD & FOODITY Standardisation Workshop: Advancing Food Systems Through Collaboration
On 5 December 2024, Privanova, as part of the DRG4FOOD and FOODITY projects, hosted the DRG4FOOD & FOODITY Standardisation Workshop, a landmark event focused on the critical role of standardisation in shaping the future of food systems.
As a proud organiser, Privanova is committed to fostering collaboration, innovation, and responsibility in digital and physical domains. This workshop embodied that vision, bringing together experts, stakeholders, and innovators from across Europe to tackle the pressing challenges of safety, security, privacy, and digital responsibility in food and data ecosystems.
A Platform for Collaborative Progress
Standardisation is at the heart of innovation, offering a framework for trust, interoperability, and progress across industries. The DRG4FOOD & FOODITY Standardisation Workshop provided a much-needed platform for discussing these issues in the context of food systems, where the stakes are high, and the opportunities are vast.
The event featured contributions from 4 EU projects— DRG4FOOD, FOODITY, FEAST, and FOLOU—as well as four pilot projects from the DRG4FOOD and FOODITY Open Calls: NutriWell, DIAITA, ATTESTED & 3FAIR, and the Kitchen Adventure. Adding to the depth of discussions, EuroFIR, a leading standardisation body, provided valuable insights into the harmonisation and reuse of food composition data.
Highlights of the Workshop
The agenda was carefully curated to address the multifaceted challenges of applying standards in food and data systems.
Notable presentations included:
- The Future of Food Systems: Dr. Anant Jani from the FEAST project discussed how FAIR principles can drive healthier and more sustainable food systems.
- Personalised Nutrition and AI: Javier Ginebreda of the DIAITA project highlighted the role of standardisation in enhancing AI-driven nutrition solutions.
- Blockchain and Traceability: FOLOU’s Giacomo Zonneveld shared insights into blockchain-based certification and its potential to revolutionise food traceability.
- Standardisation Insights: Dr. Siân Astley of EuroFIR explored the importance of harmonising food composition data for reusability, underlining the critical role of standards in driving innovation.
Privanova’s Role in Driving Innovation
At Privanova, we understand that impactful change happens through collaboration and informed dialogue. By organising this workshop, we aimed to create a bridge between EU projects, standardisation bodies, and stakeholders to explore how standards can better serve the food and data sectors.
The workshop was not only a forum for exchanging ideas but also a springboard for future actions. The discussions highlighted gaps in existing standards, opportunities for improvement, and practical steps toward harmonisation and innovation.
To ensure the momentum continues, a Workshop Booklet has been prepared, featuring key highlights, speaker presentations, and takeaways from the event.
Privanova is proud to make this resource available to stakeholders and the wider community.
