Empowering a fair and responsible European FoodRegister, fostering citizen sovereignty and creating a data-driven food system

Challenge

Food systems are multifaceted and complex structures that are characterised today by their business-centric nature. This means that most mechanisms related to the production, distribution, and exploitation of food respond to a lucrative reasoning that may occult the role and benefit of individuals.

DRG4FOOD is a project that aims to relativize this dynamic by introducing an active role for individuals in the food system. The main challenge that draws itself in this context is how to alter the system effectively to make it in phase with the evolutions of societal and regulatory frameworks that underline citizen sovereignty.

Objectives

With DRG4FOOD, we aim to implement a data-driven scheme that would put the citizen at the centre of food safety, sustainability, personalised nutrition, and reduction of food waste.

Our aim is to put technological advancement to the service of an upgraded model for the food sector. This can be achieved through a miscellaneous approach that multiplies types of innovation. The project will establish numerous case studies to ensure trustworthiness by default that would benefit the food system.

Our Role

To achieve DRG4FOOD’s objectives, Privanova works with an innovation-focused consortium on issues pertaining to compliance and standardisation.

In this sense, our team puts its expertise to work in order to constitute an effective ethics advisory board as well as an External Independent Ethics Advisor that would aid the consortium partners in the implementation of their tasks by ensuring the respect of best practices and assessing ethical challenges during the progress of the project.

Privanova also works closely with the coordinator to ensure that all ethics requirements set by the European Commission are duly addressed.

Our extensive work on privacy will also allow us to ensure the establishment and updating of the Data Management Plan, which is considered an important piece in the data protection compliance scheme as well as a great tool to oversee the respect of FAIR principles of Data Management.

Privanova’s overall role will be to assist and collaborate with all partners in order to maintain the highest standards in regard to ethics, privacy, and data protection. Ensuring this will also benefit the project’s exploitability and sustainability.
